MARATUS: a documystery

Maratus tells a remarkable story of citizen science and discovery on Canberra's doorstep. When a Canberra garbage collector takes a photo of a spider in Namadgi National Park and posts it online, he gets a call from a scientist telling him it might be an undiscovered species. There follows an epic three-year quest to re-find the spider – a journey of extraordinary self-discovery for a colourful citizen scientist.

Australian Citizen Science Conference 2015: Maximising the Capacity of Citizen Science for Science and Society - 23-24 July 2015

Citizen Science is a partnership between individuals and scientists for investigating pressing questions about the world. The purpose of this conference is bring together the Australian Citizen Science community to share skills and ideas and encourage collaboration. Australian practitioners will lead interactive workshops with internationally recognised experts, highlighting good practice for creating and delivering successful Citizen Science projects. Anyone involved in Citizen Science is welcome to join in – it’s an opportunity to share your experiences, insights, questions and ideas.

Platypus can be found throughout the Molonglo, Queanbeyan and Murrumbidgee Rivers and even in Lake Burley Griffin!
 
Waterwatch is holding platypus walks and surveys in August to help everyone understand more about these marvellous monotremes.  You might even get to spot one of our shy and secretive friends in the wild!
