Who We Are

The Kambah Heights Park Group are a passionate community group dedicated to regenerating and enhancing the natural beauty of Menzies Playground Park in Kambah. Our mission is to create a resilient urban forest that provides a peaceful, natural space for people to connect, relax, and play, while also supporting the diversity of native wildlife, particularly our beloved native birds.
We believe in the power of community-driven action to make a lasting impact on our local environment. By working together, we aim to transform this park into a thriving ecosystem that benefits both people and nature.
What we do
Our current focuses are on regenerating the park by creating a diverse and resilient urban forest. Here’s how we’re making a difference:
Enhancing Biodiversity: We’re planting a mid and understorey layer to complement the existing tree canopy, improving the habitat for native wildlife and increasing the park’s ecological diversity.
Noise Reduction: To reduce traffic noise from Sulwood Drive, we’re planting a dense line of shrubs along the park’s northern boundary using local native species.
Habitat Creation: We’re incorporating local habitat rocks into the planting areas to provide shelter for native fauna and create natural meeting and resting spots for park visitors.
Weed Management and Maintenance: Planting areas will be heavily mulched to suppress weeds and improve soil health. The placement of rocks and mulch will also help delineate grassland and woodland areas, making it easier for the ACT Government’s lawn mowing program to maintain the park.
Our volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining the park through regular working bees, focusing on weed management and caring for the new plantings.
