The Story behind Walk for Namadgi
Emma, a wonderful Canberran approached us recently, wanting to run a fundraiser to go towards Namadgi bushfire recovery. SACTCG has been gathering volunteer interest for volunteering at Namadgi National Park to assist with recovery, but due to COVID19, all events and activities have been put on hold until at least September 2020. This has been disappointing for many Canberrans who are passionate about Namadgi and want to help, so Emma had another idea. Emma’s idea was to set up a peer-to-peer fundraiser where participants challenge themselves to walk or run a certain distance over the month of May. The money raised will go towards co-ordinating and resourcing volunteer efforts in Namadgi. We created a web page using our fundraising platform Raisely, and Walk for Namadgi became a reality!
How do we Walk for Namadgi?
Participants can sign up, set their distance goals and share their page with friends and family to gain support while completing the challenge. You can post on your page with progress, updates, stories etc for your supporters, and encourage friends and family to join you in the challenge by creating a team.
Walk for Namadgi is such a great way to take action; get active for your physical and mental health; explore more of Canberra’s parks and reserves; connect virtually with your friends and family; and most importantly give your contacts an opportunity to contribute to the recovery of the precious Namadgi National Park on Ngunawal Land.
