Platypus Month

Date:

1 Aug 2014 (All day) to 31 Aug 2014 (All day)
Upper Murrumbidgee WaterwatchDid you know that August is a great time to see Platypus in the ACT region?

Platypus can be found throughout the Molonglo, Queanbeyan and Murrumbidgee Rivers and even in Lake Burley Griffin!

Waterwatch is holding platypus walks and surveys in August to help everyone understand more about these marvellous monotremes.  You might even get to spot one of our shy and secretive friends in the wild!

Things to do:
  • Platypus walks on a Sunday afternoon (17 & 31st August)- free, no RSVP necessary, suits all ages.  Meet at Isabella St footbridge in Queanbeyan at 4:30pm.
  • Platypus surveys (various dates mid-late August)- help Upper Murrumbidgee Waterwatch conduct platypus surveys at Jerrabomberra wetlands and on the Murrumbidgee River (Bredo &Tharwa areas).  Surveys will be groups of 6-10 adults, recording platypus sightings at regular intervals for one hour, starting at 6am.  Please register your interest to take part.
  • Go platyus spotting- see the attached flier for suggested locations to visit at your leisure and do your own platypus spotting.
