Last summer was devastating, and particularly sad to see Namadgi National Park burning- a place where many of us have spent a lot of time connecting with and looking after. The Orroral Valley Fire burnt 80% of the National Park and caused untold damage to our regional biodiversity.
Southern ACT Catchment Group has been gathering community support and interest for volunteering in Namadgi bushfire recovery. Around 500 keen people registered their interest in February 2020, but there were months of delays due to COVID19, and ensuring the park was safe to access for volunteers. We have finally been able to begin running volunteer events and making a difference in the National Park with the Canberra community.
SACTCG have been working in partnership with ACT Parks and Conservation to organise the events. We have also partnered with our peak body Landcare ACT to secure funding for the bushfire recovery project from both Landcare Australia and WIRES.
We are running 8 days of volunteer work in various locations in Namadgi, with a range of activities including weeding, planting, erosion control, mapping and more. We usually have to keep the group numbers small- so get in quick. We will send an email for each event with a link to the Eventbrite page to RSVP. There will be a waitlist available as well. Fill out the google form below to join the mailing list.
If you don’t have the time to volunteer, please consider a donation to SACTCG to help with coordination of volunteer efforts.
