The ACT Community Waterways Restoration Project is an initiative under the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, a $200 million commitment to revitalizing urban waterways. By improving waterway health, the project supports native wildlife, plant species, and local communities. Urban areas are home to almost 50% of Australia’s threatened animals and 25% of its endangered plants, making these efforts essential for protecting biodiversity. Beyond ecological benefits, the program strengthens community ties to nature, ensuring greener, more accessible spaces for all.
In the Southern ACT Area
SACTCG restoration efforts under this program are primarily conducted in the Tuggeranong Creek and Southern Murrumbidgee area. These efforts include removal, erosion control and debris removal.
